Track & Field

Welcome to the SRVHS Track and Field page!
Most of your questions can be answered on the track website srvhstrackandfield.com. Or, bookmark the actual google site: https://sites.google.com/srvusd.net/srvtrackandfield/home.
Track IS a CUT SPORT at SRVHS, as it is at all of the other SRVUSD high schools. Our current standards can be found on the website under the “Team Info” tab. Working out in advance of the start of the season is highly recommended. Just as those trying out for basketball would not show up on day one without prepping for the season, track athletes need to come prepared to tryouts with good general fitness, working knowledge of the event(s) they are trying out for, and all necessary paperwork/physicals completed. Tryouts typically last for 1-2 weeks, culminating in a meet where marks will be taken in any of the following events: 100, 400, 1600, 100 hurdles, Long Jump, High Jump, Pole Vault, Discus, and Shot Put. Athletes must meet the standard in at least one event to make the team.
In order to prep for the season, we generally begin off season workouts in the fall, late September to early October. Preseason usually starts after winter break. Those not in fall and/or winter sports who want to lift, do drills, and get tuned up for the season are welcome to join. Be on the lookout for interest meetings in the fall and winter.
Pole vault is extremely technical; those wishing to learn that event are encouraged to contact Coach Roger Werne at rwerne@srvusd.net to get information on pole vault-specific days/times.
During the season, our sprinters, hurdlers, and jumpers train together a few days per week, while the distance runners, throwers, and pole vaulters have their own separate groups. Additionally, we’ve had much success with our heptathlon and decathlon group. These folks often have their own training schedule and work together in the off season. This is a very small, select group that does everything: throw, jump, hurdle, pole vault, sprint, and distance.
We are the largest team on campus, even with cuts. Thus, we require help, both financially and through volunteer opportunities. Athletes looking to participate in track and field are encouraged to discuss the need for parent/care giver involvement with their families prior to trying out. Our program quite literally cannot function without it.
If you have questions you’d like answered, feel free to contact head coach Traci McMullen at tmcmullen@srvusd.net. We hope to see you soon. Go Wolves! 💚💛🐺
