$1,000 Abbott & Fener Scholarship, Due June 10
To apply for this scholarship you will need to write an essay on the topic below. The essay should be between 500 and 1000 words. No AI generated essay accepted.
  •  Topic: Describe your educational career and life goals. Explain your plan for achieving these goals. Include your degree/major, why you selected it, and how this degree/major will help you achieve your goals.

Up to $4,350, California Freethought Day  Competitions, Varying Due Dates
California Freethought Day believes that secular rights, science, social justice, civic engagement, and the First Amendment should be celebrated, and wants to support students as they further their education. Categories include:
  • Essay ($2,500+), Due July 15 by 11:59 p.m.
  • Limerick ($100), Due Aug. 31 by 11:59 p.m.
  • Speech ($1,000), Due Sept. 10 by 11:59 p.m.
  • Video ($750), Due Sept. 10 by 11:59 p.m.
To be eligible for this essay scholarship contest , students must:
  • Attend a California high school (grades 9-12) as of September 16, of the current year.
  • Have an interest in free speech, science, and the separation of church and state.
  • Plan to pursue postsecondary education at a community college, four-year college, trade school, or vocational school.
  • Be involved in, or leaders of, community organizations or school clubs.

Town of Danville Student Film Festival, Due July 11 by 5 p.m.
Middle and high school students (including 2025 graduating senior) may submit entries to the Aug. 1 Festival at the Village Theatre & Art Gallery. The film must be 10 minutes or fewer, rated PG, have a budget of fewer than $100, and all actors must be students. Submissions are accepted by Flashdrive only. Learn more
 
$200-$4,000 Brain Awareness Video Contest hosted by the Society for Neuroscience, submissions estimated March-July 2025
Create an interesting 5+ minute video about a neuroscience concept. This is an excellent opportunity to meet and possibly collaborate with a professional in the field as non-members may submit if sponsored by a current SfN member, who can be located through the member database.
