Diablo Valley College Summer 2024 Career Academies
DVC Career Academies are short-term college courses designed with high schoolstudents in mind. They allow students to explore various career fields while earning college credit through hands-on activities and field trips. They fill on a first come first serve basis.Early Childhood Education Pre-Apprenticeship Program, Register by June 1
June 10-July 18
Are you interested in a career in Early Childhood Education (ECE)? As a registered pre-apprentice, you may:
- Earn up to 6 units of College Credit in ECE
- Volunteer / Intern in an ECE classroom (up to age 8)
- Obtain a Child Development Assistant Teacher Permit (starting your path in ECE classrooms
- Be prepared to enter Contra Costa County’s Grow Your Own Early Childhood Apprenticeship Program
- Be enrolled in 10th - 12th grade in a CCC Public High School
- Priority will be given to 10th & 11th grade students in EDU CTE Pathways
- Recommended by EDU Teacher and/or Counselor

Black professionals in neuroscience will post to Twitter, Instagram, or TikTok using #BlackInNeuroRollCall, #BINW24, @BlackInNeuro. Post will constist of pop talks about research, medical practive, and current or future work.
Summer programs are a great way for students to explore various major and career interests while gaining skills and experience that are valued by colleges and employers. Many summer programs are offerd by colleges, but they can also be available through the government. The programs can range from one week to several weeks.
Please note that per the district, nothing posted here has a pricetag (more than a nominal amount). If you are interested in such programs, I recommend beginning your independent search with programs associated with colleges.
Current Postings
The strangeness of quantum physics is being harnessed to revolutionize computing as we know it. At QCaMP (Quantum, Computing, Mathematics, & Physics), you will get a primer on computing fundamentals, learn hands-on about quantum physics, and apply those phenomena to solve computing problems in new ways. You will gain experience creating circuits on a real-world quantum computer and gain access to learning resources. The only prerequisites for this camp are basic algebra and an interest in learning more!
QCaMP is a (virtual and in-person) camp aimed at the high school level. QCaMP is FREE and participants receive a learning stipend.

Four-week environmental justice focused filmmaking program for high school-aged youth between the ages of 14-18, from San Francisco and across the Bay Area. Click HERE for the application.

This is a virtual exchange and career development summer program for high school students with interests in STEM, cross-cultural communication, civic engagement, and college/career planning. Students come from the U.S., Algeria, Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan. Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Qater, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, UAE, Palestinian Territories, and Yeamen. Successful participants will receive

- Access to the U.S. Department of State's International Alumni Network
- Project funding opportunities from the State Department
- $400 scholarship toward one of The Expedriment in International Living's summer progra.

This free three-day camp is for girls and women ages 14-18 to explore a career in law wnforcement. Activities to educate and give experience include self-defense instruction, SWAT, K-9 demonstrations, crime scene investigating
forensics, negotionations. Lunch will be provided and transportation will be provided as needed.

ImmunoExplore is a free, immersive summer camp in which underrepresented minority (URM) Bay area high school students learn about the field of immunology at UCSF’s Parnassus Campus.
Through interactive games, lectures, Q&A sessions, patient panels, and live anatomy dissections, UCSF students and faculty will engage with high schoolers to expose them to careers in science and medicine involving the immune system.

Southern Exposure's Mission Voices Summer (MVS) is a FREE four-week intensive summer arts program for youth aged 14-19! MVS focuses on arts-based community development by bringing local artists and teens together to create multi-disciplinary projects and a group art exhibition that will be open to the public.

Who it's for: Students finishing their junior year in high school with a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher in a college prep curriculum are encouraged to attend. Many of our attendees demonstrate involvement and leadership roles within school, family, or community activities.
What it is: The Black Issues Forum is a five-day program that gives participants the chance to interact with university faculty, staff, and current CSU students. Participants take part in meaningful conversation, enhance their leadership potential, and deepen their understanding of their cultural heritage while discussing issues facing today's Black community at the local, state, national, and/or global levels.

This summer institute is open to 15-18 year olds interested in construction management. Accepted students will tour a construction site & demo construction equipment, build projects to take home, network, learn about career opportunities, and stay four nights in the residence halls with college student mentors over a five-day, four-night on-campus experience. Participants are responsible for $25 toward this program.

The ENvision Engineering Summer Program is a collaboration with Campos Engineering, Procurement, and Construction, LLC (Campos EPC, LLC) and hosted at Colorado State University (CSU). A five-day overnight residential program for rising high school juniors and seniors across all US states. Participants partake in hands-on engineering learning sessions led by current students & faculty of the Walter Scott Jr. College of Engineering while also exploring life as an engineering student at Colorado State University.
